Lemuel B. Ray Family Creates Endowment for WFR FFA Chapter Officers

WAKE FOREST - The Lemuel B. Ray Family has graciously signed and made official an Endowment to honor the late Mr. Lemuel B. Ray.  The endowment will be used to send WFR FFA Chapter Officers to officer leadership training.   Members of the Ray Family, along with members of the State Agricultural Education Faculty officially signed the endowment at the FFA Chapter End of Year Awards Banquet on May 4th.  The family provided remarks and shared how Mr. Ray, a native of Wake Forest, loved the FFA and enjoyed visiting the NC FFA Center at White Lake.  The WFR FFA Advisors and Members would like to personally thank the family for thier generosity.  Their gift will be used to help support leadership development in FFA members from the chapter.

FFA Chapter Awards Banquet

WAKE FOREST - The WFR FFA celebrated all their accomplishments of the past year at their end of year chapter awards banquet at the Wake Forest Community House.  Over 140 FFA Members and their guests enjoyed a night of fellowship and awards.  
     FFA members were honored that competed in Career Development Events (CDE's) throughout the year.  Members were also honored that received their Greenhand and Chapter Degrees.  Supporters of the program were honored with their Honorary Chapter Degree.  We would like to thank the WFR FFA Alumni for cooking a wonderful meal with all the fixings for the banquet.

WFR FFA State Horse Evaluation Champions

WILLIAMSTON - The WFR FFA Chapter is the 2012 NC FFA State Horse Evaluation Champions.  The members finished 1st in a 40 school competition at Martin Community College

The team members were Kendall Wolford, Sara Bickers, Taylor Fox and Ginsey Temple.  Wolford was the highest scoring individual in the entire competition.  The team now advances to compete for the national title at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana in late October.

The FFA Horse Evaluation CDE is a competitive activity that tests the student’s ability to select and evaluate horses and their riders. Event components include eight selection classes that consisted of four halter classes and four performance classes. Students also give two sets of oral reasons with one coming from each halter and performance classes.  The WFRHS students competed against more than 50 teams from across North Carolina. 

The school’s Junior Division team placed sixth in the competition.  They competed against 40 other teams from across the state. The team members were Bianca Bassnight, Lessie Hall, Mariah Jeter and Moriah Van Voorhis.  This is the first time half of this team’s members competed in a FFA event.

FFA Members Compete at East Central Regional Rally

SMITHFIELD - Twenty three WFR FFA Members competed at the East Central Regional Rally at Johnston Community College.  Students competed in a variety of competitons.  Here is a list of teams that competed.
 

Introduction to Horticulture - 5th
Nursery/Landscape - 2nd (advance to state competition)
Parliamentary Procedure - 5th
Creed - 2nd (advance to state competition)
Prepared Public Speaking - 4th
Extemporaneous Public Speaking - 2nd (advance to state competition)
Forestry - 2nd (advance to state competition)

FFA Members attend NC FFA MEGA Leadership Conference

GREENSBORO - Seventeen WFR FFA Members had the opportunity to experience one the premier leadership conference in the state of NC over the weekend of March 24th.  Students who attend have the opportunity to choose from five different tracks, developed to help students to focus on personal growth for their age group. Tracks include a freshman/sophomore path, a junior path, a senior path, spring training - for state officer candidates, and Chapter President's Conference where members will decide on four delegate issues that be voted on at State convention. No matter what track you choose, members are sure to leave with great opportunities for personal growth.

Members Help Beautify WFR High

WAKE FOREST - On Thursday March 22nd, FFA Members of the Community Committee donated their afternoon to help make the campus of WFR High School a more inviting place.  The FFA members created a flower bed around the main school entrance sign and planted evergreen shrubs.
